Pike (Esox lucius)

Pike is found in all still and running waters inhabiting by cyprinids. They are not found in the salmonid lakes. Living on the surface, they like calm, shallow, grassy waters where they can hide among the plants, especially among the reeds. They are found in still, warm waters in summer and in water with a slight current, particularly in lateral swamps of the barbell and bream zones.
Pike spawn at the start of spring, at the end of March or beginning of April, but more generally from the end of February to the end of May or as soon as the snow and ice melt and the water start to warm up to 8 to 10 0C.
They spawn in calm, shallow and grassy waters. Pike are sedentary fish which spawn where they live. They spawn in pairs and there eggs stick to vegetation.
